There is a legend in the Solomon Islands of the snake man who would steal small children. This carving shows the father ready to smite the Snake Man in an effort to rescue his frightened son from the Snake Man’s evil grip. The opponents are staring eye to eye.  Three emotions are captured here. The predation of the evil snake, the fear of the young child and the anger of the enraged father.
